Education is
an important aspect for the development of a nation. Almost all nations prioritize
education as a main priority in
national development programs. Education
is a important factor which can lead a nation to be better. Sometimes, it becomes
barometer progress of a nation.
Every
nation has its own ways to regulate their educational system. For example,
Indonesia with its institution, Ministry of Education and Culture (Kementerian Pendidikan dan
Kebudayaan or Kemdikbud) has a task to handle educational sector. With
this institution, government expect educational problems can be solved easily.

According
Indonesian law number 20 of 2003 about national educational system, a nation
has obligation to implement 9 year compulsory education to every citizen both
in Indonesia and overseas. It means every citizen should follow this rule
during 9 years with Elementary School for 6 years and Junior High School for 3
years.
9 Year Compulsory
Education
This
program is effort to improve the quality of human resources in Indonesia.
It allows all citizen receiving education at least until Junior High School.
Government also providing assistance through
BOS (Bantuan Operasional Siswa) which given in the form of free tuition or free
books.
BOS is one of the
compensation fund to reduce the costs of education, especially for the poor society. BOS program is expected to ease
the burden of citizen so they have a passion for
studying without having burdened by the cost.
Applicable Education
Curriculum in Indonesia
Since 2006,
Competency Based Curriculum (KBK)
has changed into Education
Unit Level Curriculum (KTSP) which
require every students
to be more
active than teacher. Besides,
students are expected to be more critical when face a new problem. This new curriculum provides
a wider opportunity for the school to
expand lessons.
Now,
definition of Education not only about teacher who ask their students to write
every subject, but also students with
ability expand the topic from lesson which has given.
National Examination
National
Examination is a program from goverment to measure students ability using
written test. After passing Elementary School, students must follow national
examination to get a certificate which contain their scores to continue their study
in Junior High School.
In
Junior High School, national examination must be follow again in order to
continue study in Senior High School.
For
students which fail in National Examination, government give opportunity for
them to repeat next year.
Problems Education in
Indonesia
1. Poverty
Indonesia face
various problems in education. Poverty become a main problem that very
difficult to be solved. Poverty can lead someone think to ignore education for
it can not bring income instantly.
2.
Less
enthusiasm for learning
Less
enthusiasm to learn
about new things also become a
problem. It can reduce an
opportunity to find new things which can be done if student are able to think
critically. Besides, less enthusiasm make knowledge
becomes less developed. So, students should be trained to be critical from now.
3.
Less
physical facilities
Not
all citizen have an opportunity to get education. People who live in remote
area sometimes have a problem with the lack of facilities. They can not feel
how easy to study using computer and connected with internet. Moreover, they
study not in the classroom because they have no class.
Not only government but
also we must do hard work to solve this problem.
